- Prepare meeting space to allow for making kites.
- Identify an area free of obstacles to fly kites.
During the meeting:
- Ask Cub Scouts to fold their piece of paper “hamburger” style so that the paper is 8 ½” by 5 ½”.
- Have Cub Scouts fold one side of the paper on an angle. Then have them turn the paper over and fold the other side at an angle.
- Have Cub Scouts unfold one side. Leave the folded side facing up.
- Ask Cub Scouts to tape down the folded edge.
- Have Cub Scouts tape the skewer to the wider end of the paper, across the fold.
- Ask Cub Scouts to pick up the paper and hold the kite by the folded part under the skewer.
- Ask Cub Scouts to punch a hole through the double pages right below the skewer.
- Have Cub Scouts run a length of string through the hole and tie it to the kit.
- If they want, Cub Scouts can tape streamers to the narrow end of their kites.
- Take Cub Scouts outside to fly their kites.
