Position Overview

The Vice President of Membership (classified as Director of Field Service – 1 within Scouting America) leads the field service and membership department and ensures the successful execution of all functions of district and field operations with a specific focus on selecting, training and fielding a team of quality result-oriented executives.  As a member of the CEO’s management team, the Vice President of Membership will help set, validate and implement the strategy of the Dan Beard Council, a Class 200 metropolitan council.  The Vice President of Membership will specifically be responsible for growing youth membership, ensuring quality units and programming, and growing revenue.

Responsibilities
  1. Hire, train, and motivate a high-performing membership team to meet Council goals.
  2. Develop and execute strategies for membership growth, with a focus on diversity and community outreach.
  3. Cultivate relationships with community leaders to expand Scouting’s presence in underserved areas.
  4. Increase Council funding through campaigns and sales; recruit and support council volunteers for fundraising initiatives.
  5. Oversee budgeting and operations to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Sales-driven with experience in membership growth strategies targeting millennial and Gen Z families.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and motivating teams including providing direction, coaching and effective feedback to team members.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and motivating teams. Must possess strong coaching and effective feedback skills.
  • Proven experience coordinating multiple projects/assignments simultaneously and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. Expected to cite examples of organization and time management/methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving problems where independent decision-making and self-initiative were demonstrated. Must cite examples of strong negotiating skills used to resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective leadership and interpersonal skills. Proven experience developing consultative relationships and transferable skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to successfully interpret and communicate business needs between internal and external groups in a clear, focused and concise manner. Experience must include strong telephone communication and etiquette skills. Expected to provide examples of written work such as correspondence, reports, etc.
  • Must provide examples of working under multiple deadlines and minimal supervision. Must cite examples of successfully organizing and effectively completing projects where given little or no direction.
  • Proven superb presentation skills with experience conveying information in a clear, focused and concise manner. Demonstrated use of strong listening and communication techniques and presentation software.
  • Proven strong commitment and work ethic.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, ability to interpret statistical information, and develop and implement strategies to maximize performance.
  • A successful candidate will embody personal leadership, teamwork, and accountability, and be passionate about Scouting America’s mission.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree.

Qualifications
  • Proven leadership in BSA Councils, ideally within metropolitan Councils (Class 100 or 200).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional Scouting experience.

Salary or Salary Range: Target salary range: $100,000-$125,000 based upon experience; annual merit increases based on annual performance evaluation; position eligible variable compensation/bonus plan.

He has more than 40 years of experience in the oil, gas, and energy fields, including serving as a president, owner, and CEO. Adams has also received multiple service awards from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
