Accounting Associate (Until Filled)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Accounting Associate to join our dynamic team at the Philmont Scout Ranch. As an Accounting Associate, you will be responsible for providing essential support in various accounting functions performing a variety of non-routine clerical accounting functions involved with posting to and balancing the general or subsidiary ledgers. Your ability to maintain accurate financial records and adhere to compliance standards will be vital in helping us achieve our organizational goals. You will collaborate with team members to ensure that all accounting practices align with relevant regulations and best practices. Responsibilities
- Assists in administering the accounts payable, cost accounting, accounts receivable, or other accounting functions.
- Reconciles bank accounts, and posts to and balances general or subsidiary ledgers; processes payment and compiles segments of monthly closings and periodic reports.
- Checks, verifies, and maintains cost accounting, accounts payable, and other records. Prepares invoices and vouchers, types, files, posts ledger and general journal entries, and balances accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Uses office automated systems to input data, generate reports, conduct special research projects, and respond to inquiries.
- May reconcile difficult accounts and prepare tax deposits and reports; generate and distribute checks or produces special reports.
- May assist in providing training or reviewing the work of less-experienced clerical accounting staff.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Knowledge of: Accounting principles and practices, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); chart of accounts and account coding structures; basic tax principles and procedures; internal controls and best practices for maintaining accurate records.
- Skill in: Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word; strong data entry and typing with accuracy and speed; familiarity with accounting software packages; analysis to identify and resolve discrepancies in records; attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in financial data; time management to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and respond to inquiries.
- Ability to: Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts; post transactions to general and subsidiary ledgers; process payments and prepare journal entries; manage accounts payable and receivable processes; prepare invoices, vouchers, and reports; perform cost accounting tasks; use accounting software to generate reports and conduct research; assist with training and reviewing work of others as needed; maintain professionalism and confidentiality in handling financial data.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in working in an accounting environment to include accounts payable or receivable, preparing invoices, and assisting with reports.
- Must pass a criminal history background check and social security number verification check.
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.
- Hearing acuity for verbal communication, conversations, face-to-face interactions, and/or responses via telephone and telephone systems.
- Speaking ability for general communication and ability to clearly enunciate in conversations with others.
This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
