Position Overview

The Muskingum Valley Council, Scouting America, seeks a dynamic and motivated individual for a position as a District Professional. This role supports the mission of Scouting by providing leadership and administrative assistance to local Scouting units within the council. The District Professional will work closely with volunteers, Scout leaders, and community partners to ensure quality programs, growth in membership, and financial sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Scout Executive and council staff to support local Scouting units in achieving membership growth, program quality, and volunteer recruitment.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of district-level events, including trainings, activities, and fundraisers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with chartered organizations, local businesses, community leaders, and other stakeholders to promote Scouting within the district.
  • Support unit leaders with training, program development, and compliance with BSA policies and procedures.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts, including Friends of Scouting campaigns, product sales, and grant opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on membership growth, financial progress, and program success within the district.
  • Represent the Muskingum Valley Council in a professional manner at meetings, events, and community functions.
  • Ensure compliance with all Scouting America policies, including Youth Protection and risk management. Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include: program development through collaborative relationships, volunteer recruitment and training, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Work with a volunteer board of directors and other community and business leaders to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.
  • Be responsible for extending programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations through volunteers.
  • Secure adequate financial support for programs in assigned area. Achieve net income and participation objectives for assigned camps and activities.
  • Recruit leadership for finance campaign efforts to meet the financial needs of the organization.
  • Ensure that all program sites are served through volunteers, regular leader meetings, training events and activities.
  • Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee achievement of training for their respective role.
  • Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The executive must have communication skills and be able to explain the program’s goals and objectives to the public.
  • Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events and activities.
  • Have a willingness and ability for flexible and irregular hours to achieve council and district objectives.
Education

High school diploma or GED Required. Must be able to attain a Commission in accordance with Scouting America Rules and Regulations.

  • A minimum of 2 years+ (equivalent of 60 credit hours) of college-level coursework at an accredited college or university is required.
  • 2 years of full-time or 3 years of part-time military experience can be used as a substitute for the college level required coursework.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred, with a background in youth programs, non-profit work, or community engagement.
  • Prior Scouting experience, while not required, is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with volunteers, community partners, and unit leaders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites, poster design, and other relevant software tools.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance and reliable transportation are required.

Licenses

Driver’s License and ability to obtain and maintain a Professional Scouting Commission.

Salary or Salary Range: $16.00-$22.00 an hour

A triathlete who has completed hundreds of races, Alexander has also mentored the women’s triathlon team at Arizona State University.

Adams has also received multiple service awards from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
