The Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America serves over 21,000 youth in Metro-Atlanta with a nationally recognized youth leadership program based in the outdoors. With two premier camping facilities and one natural facility, the Atlanta Area Council strives to deliver the promise and impact of outdoor adventure to all youth and families we serve.

The Director of Camping is responsible for delivering excellence in the Council’s summer and winter camp operations at Woodruff and Bert Adams Scout Camps and various other outdoor programs. The Director of Camping leads several key committees and volunteers through effective management, serves on the Council’s Leadership Team, and partners with Council Board and Executive Committee Members to achieve our mission.

• Lead the council’s $2.8 million in camping operations at Woodruff and Bert Adams Scout Camps to deliver exceptional programs to a growing camp and meet/ exceed camp financial goals.
• Lead the council staff and volunteers in executing promotion campaigns for summer camp programs to meet/ exceed camp attendance goals.
• Build a camp staff culture of remarkable service, friendliness, and performance reinforced through personal examples, high-quality staff hiring, and impactful camp staff training.
• Recruit, orient, and advise high-caliber volunteers to serve on Council Camping Committee and sub committees including but not limited to program support committees (Shooting Sports, Aquatics, COPE/Climbing, etc.), Campership Committee, Order of the Arrow, Jamboree leadership team, High Adventure leadership, and other associated volunteer teams.
• Participate in the council’s fundraising efforts.
• Lead the annual campership campaign to secure funds for Scouts requiring assistance to attend camps. (Currently $60,000).
• Serve as a member of the Council’s Leadership Team with other council level managers.
• Work closely with the Vice President of Programs and Camping Committee to determine and achieve aggressive goals related to continuous elevation of the camper experience and resource generation.
• Work closely with the other members of the Program team to support and collaborate on all council events and programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree

• Proven success in camp management and program delivery through volunteers and staff recruitment
• Outstanding customer focus, customer service skills, and professionalism
• Strong written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
• Ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Must be a team player and team builder.
