Position Overview

Responsibilities
  • Work with a volunteer board of directors and other community and business leaders to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.
  • Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include: program development through collaborative relationships, volunteer recruitment and training, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee achievement of training for their respective role.
  • Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The executive must have communication skills and be able to explain the program’s goals and objectives to the public.
  • Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events and activities.
  • Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieve council and district objectives.
  • Recruit new volunteer program leadership for new and existing programs, events, and activities.
  • Act as the staff advisor and program lead accepting responsibility for the success or failure of a specific share of the council mission and strategic plan. Works with the program, camping, and activity committees to fulfill their functions. Supports volunteer efforts and volunteer leadership for all program activities, camp promotions, and youth events in the council.
  • Advises the council on all program activities, volunteer and youth development training, activities, and camp promotions.
  • Works with volunteers to facilitate programs (e.g., resident camp, camporees, day camp, high adventure activities and may lead camp programs, etc.). Works with council service area to provide volunteer and youth development training, camp promotions, and high adventure opportunities, etc.
  • Achieves attendance goals for all assigned activities, program events and camp promotions.
  • Plans and implements activities (e.g., resident camp, camporees, cub and Scouts BSA activities, etc.) and plans and implements annual recognition events to include working through volunteer committees to plan logistics for recognition events for the council.
  • Work to develop program budgets and maintain budgets for all programs.
  • Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top quality volunteers.
  • Helps to assure the council’s long-range strategy to achieve its mission in the field of programming and activities.
  • Marketing program and outdoor experience opportunities to community groups. (ie. ROTC Groups, Church Youth Groups, School Groups, etc.)
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Helps to maintain the Council website and keep program pages and registration platforms up to date to streamline the registration process for events. (Website training is available)
Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).

Qualifications
  • Strong skills in business/office technology, including but not limited to: Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), Canva, BlackBaud CRM, and email management.
  • Social Media/Digital Marketing experience is preferred
  • The ability to organize data into useful, actionable information
  • Must be a fast learner and be successful with multitasking- must be able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines at a timeand in a timely manner
  • Strong marketing, fund-raising and program development background is highly desired.
  • Non-profit, fundraising or sales experience is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible, and creative.
  • Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
  • Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.
  • Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scout of America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Attained 21 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.
  • Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities and weekend work is frequently required to achieve positive objectives.
  • Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
  • A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.
