Position Overview

The Multicultural Engagement Director will plays a pivotal role in leading and implementing strategic initiatives to engage youth from diverse backgrounds and strengthen inclusivity within our programs by fostering relationships and enhancing engagement with diverse cultural communities.  The Multicultural Engagement Director will partner with Marketing on developing and executing culturally relevant marketing campaigns, and collaborate with Programs and Scouting Outfitters, leading efforts to translate Scouting America materials into multiple languages. They will establish partnerships with diverse national and community organizations, build relationships with multicultural communities, lead creation of toolkits for outreach to diverse communities and partner with our local councils and communities to help ensure that all youth and families feel a deep sense of belonging in Scouting.

We are looking for a visionary leader and strategic thinker with a proven track record in multicultural marketing, community engagement, and communications in a large, complex organization. This role requires expertise in reaching diverse audiences, particularly Hispanic, Asian, Black, and Indigenous communities, leading the development of multilingual content in Spanish, Mandarin, and other key languages, and cultivating partnerships with diverse organizations. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. The National Multicultural Marketing and Community Engagement Director reports to the Vice President of HR & Chief Diversity Officer.

Responsibilities
  • Partners with Marketing to develop and implement collateral and campaigns that resonate with youth and families from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring alignment with Scouting America’s mission.
  • Works to build collaborative relationships across national and local councils in the organization, and counsels Unit Growth Executives on outreach that leads to opportunities for new unit development and growth.
  • Utilizes market research and data analytics to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges in reaching and engaging underrepresented communities.
  • Leads the creation of multilingual and culturally tailored promotional materials, ensuring authenticity and effectiveness.
  • Builds strong relationships with multicultural organizations, faith-based groups, and community leaders to expand awareness of and participation in Scouting.
  • Develops initiatives that support the onboarding and retention of youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Partners with local councils and volunteers to provide guidance on effective multicultural outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Oversees the development of marketing collateral in Spanish, Mandarin, and other key languages to support recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.
  • Crafts compelling narratives and storytelling campaigns that highlight the impact of Scouting in diverse communities.
  • Ensures all communications and messaging reflect an inclusive, welcoming, and culturally aware approach.
  • Develops toolkits that support outreach to diverse communities.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in marketing, partnership and outreach efforts.
  • Leads cross-functional teams, working closely with the diversity, marketing, communications, membership, outfitters and program teams.
  • Manages relationships with external agencies, consultants, and vendors specializing in multicultural marketing.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.

Preferences:  Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field; fluency in Spanish; experience with a youth organization; and, experience working with a franchise model.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in multicultural marketing, communications, and community engagement within a large organization.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
