Scout Executive / CEO
Position Overview
Serves as chief executive officer of the council and gives direction to the operations and administration of the council, subject to the authority and direction of the executive board. Serves as the Secretary of the corporation, the executive board, and the executive committee. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees of the executive board. Is responsible for strategic planning, attaining council and BSA objectives, fiscal stability, membership and growth management, volunteer and community relationships, and unit service within the council territory. Carries out other duties of the office as set forth in the council bylaws.
Resumes and a one-page cover letter are due by February 24th, 2025. Resumes should not exceed two pages. These documents will be shared with the Scout Executive selection committee. Cover letters should provide information supporting local council competencies/profiles.
Responsibilities
Is responsible for effectively managing a council with revenue of $2,000,000
- Membership: Establishes an action plan that results in balanced growth so all qualified youth may participate. Council demands membership and new unit growth.
- Personnel: Recruits and trains a full complement of volunteers and staff to fulfill the council’s objectives. Emphasis on district leadership volunteer recruiting. Retention and development of professional staff is critical, with improved succession planning and hiring processes.
- Finance: Develops, in cooperation with the finance committee, a budget based on the council’s resources. Responsible for the council’s fundraising program, broadening base of donors and community support.
- Community Engagement, Marketing & Public Relations—especially in multicultural markets focusing on greater participation with women and girls in Scouting.

Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Qualifications
- Skilled and experienced in all phases of membership growth management
- Has a history of consistent membership growth
- Has experience and knowledge in cultivating and recruiting volunteers; demonstrated ability to increase gender diversity within volunteers, staff, and executive board
- Has a proven track record in successfully managing staff
- Has a history of successful and innovative fundraising (FOS, special events, product sales)
- Skilled and experienced in serving multicultural markets and outreach to women and girls
- Skilled and experienced in implementing a strategic plan

- Household moving: Pay all-provide 2 estimates.
- Relocation allowance: 5% of new salary, less taxes.
- Auto Plan-Council will use the IRS rate annually. Currently rate is 65.5 cents per business mile.
- Interim Housing: President to negotiate with selected candidate. (60-90 days)
- Relocate family within 180 days.
- Scouting America Match Savings Plan, a 403(b)-plan offered through Fidelity Investments. Effective January 1, 2025, the employer match is 50% of each pre-tax or Roth dollar you contribute on the first 9% of pay that you defer into the plan.

Hiring Range: $105,000/yr – $210,000/yr
