Maintenance Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining facilities and related plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment at Philmont Scout Ranch to ensure efficient and safe operations. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical skills and problem-solving abilities. You will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and improvements to a variety of building systems and infrastructure. This role performs skilled trades work, such as carpentry or painting in the construction, repair, or alteration of structures such as walls, roofs, or office fixtures. You will also make periodic or special inspections on the premise to determine the repair work necessary and may work from blueprints, drawings, or rough sketches.

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Supervisor of Facility Services.
Responsibilities
- Uses detailed instructions, safety standards and procedures to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and facilities.
- Complies with the appropriate permits, regulations, licenses, and certifications.
- Works with or supervises contractors and seasonal staff.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Knowledge of: Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical equipment, facility structure, carpentry, painting, repairs, and construction alterations; safety regulations and procedures to include OSHA, NFPA, and building codes; hand tools, power tools, specialized equipment; and preventive maintenance practices and procedures.
- Skill in: Identifying and fixing equipment malfunctions; maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting; performing routine inspections and tasks; communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and contractors; maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities; prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines; analyzing situations and making sound decisions; and collaborating with colleagues and contractors.
- Ability to: Use tools and equipment safely and effectively; lift and carry equipment, climb ladders; identify and address minor issues before they become problems; provide courteous and professional service to building occupants; and take initiative and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Education
Preferences: High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in facility maintenance or a related field (e.g., construction, electrician, plumber).
- Must pass a criminal history background and driver’s license check.
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.
- Hearing acuity for verbal communication, conversations, face-to-face interactions, and/or responses via telephone and telephone systems.
- Speaking ability for general communication and ability to clearly enunciate in conversations with others.
This position requires manual dexterity to operate assigned equipment; to perform work activities such as typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and/or prolonged sitting/standing. Operates small machinery and equipment (e.g. hand tools). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and move objects and equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
Licenses
- Specific certifications may be required in specialized skills or trades.
- Valid state driver’s license.
