Responsibilities
  1. Protection and Control of Property and People
    • Control all use of property. Patrol property as necessary, but not less than weekly for risks such as trespass, vandalism, damage, and fire. Logs shall indicate the patrol conducted that week.
    • Ensure safe operating conditions and know emergency procedures. Maintain an Emergency Call list at designated locations in camp for BSA, Local and State agencies.
    • Ensure local, county, and state Youth Camp and Public Health regulations are supported and where necessary the Ranger shall ensure they are followed.
    • Maintain maintenance of gates and alarms.
  1. Business Responsibilities
    • Comply with established council business procedures.
    • On or before the 5th working day of every month submit reports and required other business records as established by the Scout Executive.
    • No cash or checks, credit card statements may be held at the camp. All shall be submitted to the Scout Service Center in a timely manner.
    • Supervise maintenance employees or summer camp staff when assigned.
    • Attend and participate in at least one BSA course or approved development program each year. This shall be with the prior approval of the Scout Executive. The Ranger is responsible to place the course and associated expenses in the budget.
  1. Operation of Physical Facilities and Property
    • Keep all physical property and mechanical equipment in safe and acceptable operating condition. Perform duties required to open/close camp in a timely manner.
    • Maintain a clean and neat work area, storage, and warehouse.
    • Campgrounds and all facilities shall be maintained to comply with health, safety, sanitation, and good housekeeping practices.
    • The Ranger shall acquire and maintain the necessary licenses to operate and maintain the potable water supply from the camp well.
    • Establish work schedule for routine maintenance and operational procedures.
    • Order necessary supplies and parts through Purchase Orders in compliance with the Budget with prior written approval, in emergency circumstances verbal confirmed in writing, of the Scout Executive.
    • All regulated facilities shall have the proper reports and permit renewals submitted to the Scout Executive 5 business days ahead of their due date, complete and accurate. Copies shall be retained in the Camp Records.
    • An annual inspection of the house and out buildings shall be conducted by the Scout Executive and a Properties or Camping Committee volunteer, preferably before September 1st.
  1. Maintenance of Physical Facilities and Property
    • Make regular inspections of all properties for Council to determine essential repairs and corrective action required.
    • Submit estimates of time and materials when necessary and perform general repairs as authorized.
    • Maintain equipment records and maintenance histories.
    • Maintain copies of regulatory permits and inspections from BSA, local, county and state agencies.
    • Maintain records of all maintenance action in separate notebooks.
    • Supervise implementation of property conservation plan.
    • Supervise the Fire Safety Plan.
    • Complete monthly assignments assigned by the Scout Executive which may be supplied by the Camping Committee.
    • Provide a rolling 5-year operation and maintenance budget by September 1st of each year to Scout Executive with copies to the Camping and Properties committees.
  1. Relationship and Personal Conduct
    • Attend monthly meetings with Camping committees to review status.
    • Attend meetings of Katahdin Charities, Inc.
    • Cooperate closely with Camp Director or Campmaster Corps to effectively resolve questions of facility operation, such as checking groups in or out, issuing equipment, submitting records and reports of each occupancy and related matters.
    • Maintain professional conduct and harmonious interaction with visitors, adult Scouters and Scouts at all times.
    • Wear appropriate attire, identifying you as a Ranger. Clothing and personal appearance shall be that of a Scout. Clean, neat, and supportive of a positive and professional appearance.
    • You shall use proper personal protective equipment to protect yourself whenever using mechanical equipment. You will notify the Scout Executive of the needed equipment and submit a Purchase Order as required for that proper equipment.
    • Maintain harmonious relationships with local officials and government services, adjoining landowners, and neighboring communities.
    • Represent the Council in contacts with visitors, Scouters, and Scouts.
    • Maintain good housekeeping practices within and surrounding the Ranger’s residence.
    • Submit for prior approval to Scout Executive by February 1st each year the request for vacation and known training times where you are not available to the camp.
  1. Time Commitment This is a fulltime exempt position 40+ hours weekly
    • Approximately 20 hours per week on weekends, Saturday, and Sunday, for check in and check out of units, performing maintenance functions, assisting in projects such as building tent platforms, picnic tables, unit or campbuilder volunteer projects and repairing buildings and equipment.
    • Approximately 20 hours per week on routine maintenance and building projects on the camp premises. Proper report submission, accounting, record maintenance and support of budget preparation and management are to be integrated into the work schedule.
    • Maintenance at the Scout Service Center-as required.
    • The Ranger is entitled to two days off per week as needed.
    • Responsible of securing coverage when not present as needed. This shall be done and approved by the Scout Executive no less than a week prior. The Scout Executive may waive this requirement for personal emergencies.
    • During the operation of summer camp, the Ranger becomes a staff member shall report to Camp Director during that time, except where BSA or local regulations require them to be in responsible charge.
  1. Personal Requirements
    • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor including lifting, climbing, and walking. An annual BSA physical is required.
Education

High School Diploma

Qualifications

Plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, electrical experience required
