Regional Venturing President
QUALIFICATIONS: To run for regional Venturing president, a Venturer must:
- Be a present or past crew president, or a present or past Teen Leaders’ Council chairperson or officer (or equivalent district or council organization) in his or her council.
- Be recommended and approved by his or her council.
- Be less than 19 years of age on May 31, 2008.
- Be a currently primary registered Venturer in his or her council.
- Be able to attend the BSA National Annual Meeting, May 21-23, 2008, to be held in San Diego, CA, and the national Venturing cabinet orientation continuing July 10-13, 2008, in Dallas, TX.
The nominee should attach no more than six 8½ x 11-inch pages on white paper to this application stating his or her qualifications for regional Venturing president. Please staple these pages to this application. Do not enclose them in notebooks, binders, or sheet protectors. These pages should include:
- Experience as the crew president or Teen Leaders’ Council chairperson or other officer.
- Leadership experience, awards, training, and other activities related to Venturing.
- Honors, leadership positions, awards, and training from church, Scouting, or other organizations.
- School awards, clubs, sports, scholarships, and leadership positions.
- A statement on college or career plans.
- A brief statement on why you want to be regional Venturing president.
- Other information on your qualifications to run for office.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE REGIONAL VENTURING PRESIDENT
- Represents Venturing at:
- National meetings (when designated)
- Regional activities and meetings (when designated)
- International activities and meetings (when designated)
- Council activities (when invited)
- Special projects/task forces (as assigned)
- Will serve as the youth Venturing president on the regional program committee and/or regional board, if appointed by the regional office.
- Must attend the national Venturing cabinet orientation.
- Is responsible to the staff member assigned to Venturing in his or her region.
- Supports the programs and activities designed by the region.
- Assists councils upon request of the region.
- Supports the region in any effort to train council Venturing officers and Advisors.
- Promotes national, regional, and area activities, programs, and awards.
- Serves in a leadership position for any national event as assigned by the Venturing president and national Venturing staff.
- Agrees to wear the Venturing uniform and identity items as suggested by the regional staff member assigned to Venturing (paid for at own expense).
REGIONAL VENTURING PRESIDENT (Overview)
Purpose: To clarify the required qualifications, selection process, and role of regional Venturing presidents.
Background: Even though Venturing was officially started in 1998, its youth officers follow a long tradition started when the first regional and national Exploring officers were elected at the first national Exploring Congress held in Washington, D.C. Since that time, many quality young men and women have effectively led the BSA's premier young adult program.
QUALIFICATIONS TO RUN FOR THE OFFICE OF REGIONAL VENTURING PRESIDENT
- Be a currently registered Venturer in his or her council.
- Be a present or past crew president, or a present or past chairperson or officer in his or her council's Teen Leaders' Council or equivalent district or council organization in his or her council.
- Be recommended and approved by his or her council.
- Be less than 19 years of age on May 31, 2008.
TERM OF OFFICE -
From June 1, 2008, through May 31, 2009
RESPONSIBILITIES (Job Description)
- Serves as the youth Venturing president on the regional program committee and/or the regional board if so desired by the regional director.
- Is responsible to the staff member assigned by the region.
- Supports the programs and activities designated by the region.
- Attends and participates in regional and national meetings and activities as requested and approved by the national Venturing Division or regional office.
- Attends regional, area, and council meetings and activities when invited and on approval of the regional office.
- Assists councils with Venturing activities, upon the request of the region.
- Supports the region in any effort to train council Venturing officers and Advisors.
- Serves in a leadership role for any national event as assigned by the national Venturing president and national Venturing staff.
- Agrees to wear the Venturing uniform and identity items as suggested by the regional staff.
- Agrees to resign from office if requested by the regional director.
Regional office will pay for outgoing officers attending the national meeting.
