Hispanic Initiatives
To ensure its continued growth and success in developing the leaders of tomorrow, Scouting must evolve as an organization that offers significant, targeted program options to the booming Latino market.
The U.S. Latino population is booming nearly four times as fast as the rest of the population. By midcentury, Hispanics will comprise more than a quarter of the nation’s citizens, representing half of the nation’s population growth.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that a quarter of children younger than 5 are Hispanic; in five years, they will be Boy Scout age. But today, only 100,000 of the 3 million registered members of the Boy Scouts of America are Hispanic.
With the creation of the Hispanic Initiatives Division and the National Hispanic Initiatives Committee, the Boy Scouts of America has demonstrated its commitment to a progressive and innovative strategy that will engage Hispanic youth and their families in Scouting. We want to interweave Hispanic culture throughout the Scouting program and make this collaboration a solid fit.
