Reversing Forest Fragmentation

Forest fragmentation occurs when large forests break into smaller tracts due to separation by smaller, non-forested land. The Forest Interior Dwelling Species of birds (FIDS) in Maryland require large forest areas to sustain viable breeding populations. Forest fragmentation therefore poses a threat to the existence of many FIDS in the state of Maryland.

Project Objective #1
|Increase forest habitat for FIDS by starting a forest corridor to combine tracts currently separated by more than 800 feet of field.

Project Objective # 2
Provide project leadership and educate the public about environmental problems associated with forest fragmentation.
